MISSION STATEMENT

KNOll to Wind Farm
requires funds to support its activities.

The money raised will be spent at the discretion of the Action Group Committee, but can be expected to cover, amongst other things;

  • Preparation and printing of newsletters;
  • Preparation of "marketing" material advertising our cause and explaining our views;
  • Purchase of research material;
  • Procurement of photographs demonstrating the visual impact of the proposals;
  • Membership of advisory bodies;
  • Procurement of professional advice as required;
  • Costs of letters and stamps to inform other bodies about the proposals;

Once the position concerning the wind farm has been established and that part of the Action Group becomes dormant, any remaining funds will be utilised by the Green Action Group to continue to promote and support green initiatives in our community.

BEING GREEN

LETTERS OF SUPPORT

Dear Sir/Madam

Just a note to register my support for the kNOll campaign opposing the proposed wind farm by Brent Knoll.

I have been following the campaign with interest over the last few weeks; my heart sank when I first heard of the proposal and as photo images now more clearly show the reality of what a blot they would be on such a beautiful landscape, I feel more determined then ever that the proposal should not go ahead.

Although I live in Weston-super-Mare, Brent Knoll is something of a second home – I have walked and run up the Knoll more than most over the years and the view from the top never ceases to amaze and nourish me – but that could be due to oxygen depravation…!

I back all of the reasons against it, even as someone who is really into green issues, but above all it would be just inappropriately placed near to both villages and a National Trust beauty spot – it would significantly detract from what is a stunning panorama, and with eyes half closed, one that Iron Age man from the fort would still recognise – unless a wind farm was built…

Please keep me informed of developments – good luck with the campaign

Regards - Keith Graham

Below is an email we have received from Eugene Kalwa of Toronto. He mentions the windwatch site and I would recommend a look at the news page on this site which includes features on our battle.

Dear Members of Brent kNOll To Windfarm group –

I admire your fight against Ecotricity’s plans. Here, in North America, the National Wind Watch website (http://www.windwatch.org/ ) posted lately a few news articles about your battle. I find your website very informative, especially the Technical Issues and Critique of the Ecotricity’s generation claims. In fact, out of hundreds of anti-wind websites and thousands of opinions/articles I have read, your analysis is the most in depth and uncovers the hideous, false propaganda, claims and promises of Ecotricity and other wind developers. Your Group has the wisdom to seek help of engineers and, I hope, you continue this fruitful cooperation. Ecotricity’s strong, but unsupported denials are an additional proof that you are absolutely right in your critique of their largely overblown output figures.

You are also right that their promised capacity factor of over 28% is totally unrealistic for this type of wind turbines and wind conditions in your area. Actually, even the numbers used in your calculations are too generous for the Ecotricity project. The reason is that Ofgem’s and other statistics come from the performance of much smaller turbines. If there had been any large turbines included, their real performance was not reliably verified, and only claims of production must have been input into the statistics.

Enclosed below is my recent correspondence on this subject with the Desert Dispatch of California, Maggi Sliwinski of HWS Colleges of New York and a few other people (plus 5 Attachments in Microsoft Word). My findings and conclusions, although collected in North America, are equally applicable to your region. They may shock you at first, but if you consult someone really knowledgeable in this field and take proper observations/ video recordings from similar big mills already “operating” somewhere in your region, you will have your own material, confirming the results of my research. Instead of the promised (plus) 28% capacity factor, Ecotricity’s mills would operate at approx. minus 15% c.f. Like I wrote to others, the proof to that is not on the websites of windmill makers/sellers or windfarm operators, but in the field, where they cannot hide the hard facts or manipulate them any way they want.

Andrew and Friends: Please, review my material with due diligence, check it from every angle and verify it, so you are absolutely sure of it, like I am. A lot hangs on it so let’s do it right in the first place. Feel free to ask me any questions or even better, put me in touch (directly or through your Group) with any of your experts. I will be glad to share more material and info.

Best regards,

Eugene Kalwa, Ph.D.
