| WHAT
WE BELIEVE
Our in-depth research and
our values lead us to the following position;
- Wind farms, in the appropriate
locations, may have a place as part of a wider energy generation strategy
for the UK;
- Locations for wind farms
and/or other forms of energy generation should be selected in a strategic
manner, and not on an opportunistic commercial basis;
- Compensation should be
awarded to those who lose out based on strategic energy production decisions.
It is not equitable for commercial developers to make financial gain
at the expense of local economies and individuals in order to meet national
energy requirements and targets;
- Wind farms will only make
a marginal contribution to the overall action required to address climate
change and other environmental issues on a global basis; however, reducing
our consumption of energy and becoming "greener" in our lifestyles
can make a big impact in the UK;
- The site for the proposed
development at Inner Farm, Edithmead, Burnham-on-Sea, is the wrong location
for a wind farm, for a wide range of economic, environmental and safety
reasons;
- We should strive as a
local community to become "greener";
PURPOSE
OF OUR ACTION GROUP
The fundamental purpose of
the Action Group can be expressed as follows:
- To prevent the construction
of the proposed wind farm at Inner Farm, Edithmead, Burnham-on-Sea,
or in the vicinity.
- To promote "green
action" in Brent Knoll;
STRATEGY
FOR THE GROUP
In order to achieve its objectives
the Action Group will seek
- To mobilise and co-ordinate
local opinion in order to raise effective objections to the Planning
application, and thereby ensure that the proposed planning application
and/or any amended applications to build a wind farm at the location
or in the vicinity are not accepted by the Planning Authorities.
- Set up a "Green Action
Group" to promote greater awareness of green issues and facilitate
green activities in the area.
TACTICS
The tactics which will underpin
this strategy can be summarised as follows:
- Research the issues in
depth;
- Raise Awareness of the
situation with stakeholders in the area;
- Inform stakeholders of
the pertinent issues;
- Lobby the appropriate
decision makers and influencers;
- Assist people to respond
in an effective manner;
- Co-ordination of responses;
- Make formal representations
to the Planning Authorities;
- Promote "Green Action"
in the Village;
- Resource these actions
through utilising local skills and appropriate fund raising activities;
NON-POLITICAL
The KNOll
to Wind Farm Action Group is non-
political. We believe our position and objectives are consistent with
the objectives and policies of the three main political parties and the
Green Party.
